Funny story about my son who was washing himself in the shower. Now let’s be clear, he has been raised to know the names of his body parts and we’ve tried not to instill shame about his body. So while he’s washing in the shower, I ask him specifically to wash his anus with soap. He says to me, “Mom! you can’t say that. ” Obviously in school anus is not something to be discussed or joked about. However I say to him, “it is appropriate to use the body part name that I want you to wash. It is not a bad word, it is a body part!”
